Day 3
Visit to Keukenhof and Volendam in Netherlands
Today we had simple breakfast with bread and 3 in 1 cereal pack (brought from home), then get ready to go Keukenhof garden to see tulips.
Keukenhof also known as the Garden of Europe, it is one of the world’s largest flower gardens. It took us about 40minutes to reach Keukenhof which was located in Lisse, we can enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the way. We bought our entrance and parking tickets earlier through their official website (Keukenhof), ticket cost €8 per adult and €6 for parking, baby was free of charge.
This garden was spectacular, all the best bloom tulips in varies colours, sizes and species can be found here. It will be a loss not to visit this place during springtime.
After being tired of admiring the beautiful tulips and flowers, we had our break and lunch at their cafeteria. We finished our garden tour around 2pm, then we traveled to our next destination, Volendam.
Along the way to Volendam, there were floods at the roadsides. When we almost reach our destination, we saw peoples were walking on the hill besides the road. We stopped our car at roadside and climbed up the hill and found this spectacular view! It was just so beautiful, we wished we can stayed a bit longer, but it was chilly and strong wind, we had to get back into our car after some photoshots. The sea level was relatively high, we finally believed that quarter of Netherlands is below sea level.
Volendam is one of the popular tourists destination in Netherlands, it is an old fishing village famous with its beautiful harbour, authentic wooden houses, traditional Dutch costumes and wooden shoes. It took us almost an hour to reach this place.
Volendam is best to explore by foot, there are plenty of cafes, food truck, restaurants and sourvenir shops along the harbour. If you are a fans of seafood, you definitely must visit this place, there are seafoods selling at everywhere.
We bought some fries and seafood from the food truck, we enjoyed our meal while looking at the sea gulls and listened to the waves. Then we go walked around the town and found a supermarket. Luckily we able to go shop for groceries before they close, we bought some groceries such as potatoes, carrots, berries and etc. The groceries were cheap, we can save a lot by cooking by ourselves.
Tips for parent: The weather in Europe can change anytime, even during the springtime. It is recommended to bring along wind breaker, in case it became windy and chilly.
